Produced as Elaine's junior BFA film at in the UCF film program, "A Bear! ...or Something" is a tightly contained and sharp-witted suspense short that unfolds in real time across two locations: a sterile emergency dispatch center and the pitch-black forest. With minimal visuals and a creeping sense of dread, the story builds tension through dialogue, sound, and the widening gap between those who seek help and those tasked with answering.
The short was directed and edited by Elaine, who also wrote the script alongside her partner, Aiden Anderson. It stars Jessica Celestina in her breakout comedic role, as well as comedy veteran Marina Russell. The crew was an all-star team made up mostly of members of a local production group, Midnight Oil, who also distributed the film. Elaine also made the film's poster and marketing material.
